A world of difference…

I received this photo from my son’s teacher. It illustrates the difference in what he is able to do when he has taken his ADHD medication and when he has not.

šŸ¤·I know there are people now wondering why does someone who posts about nutrition and clean living give her child ADHD medication? Doesn’t she know….?

I do know. This is why when he first came to join our family it was culture shock, the food we eat is healthy and radically different from the chemically filled, processed food he lived on before.

Changing his diet, coupled with consistent loving boundaries, brought about enough change that he could move into traditional mainstream classroom from being in a small room working 1-1 with a teacher. His medications have decreased dramatically.

Yet for him, nutrition alone was not enough to undo all of the effects of trauma and birth circumstances. Often the effects of trauma produce behaviors in children that mimic ADHD. The brains of children who have experienced trauma show significant differences from those who have been raised in a safe environment where their needs were consistently met. Do I want him to need pharmaceuticals to be able to function in the learning environment of the classroom-NO. However it is a necessity until his brain is able to heal and develop the skills to regulate and control stimuli for itself.

Educator friends, realize there may be circumstances in your students’ life that have altered their brains in a way that impacts their ability to process stimuli and organize information. Know it is as frustrating to them as it is to you.

Fellow parents, know that we all do our best with what we have for knowledge and information. Trust your instincts in what is best for your child. šŸ’•
