The Roots of Mindfulness

Mindfulness has its roots in the Buddhist contemplative traditions. The practice of mindfulness aimed at reducing and eliminating suffering linked to an incorrect understanding of reality and draws its origins from the four Noble truths and the Noble eightfold path belonging to the most ancient Buddhist spiritual culture.

The Four Noble Truths are:

  1. Suffering on the part of nature and human existence.
  2. The origin of suffering is attachment, aversion, wrong vision.

3 The cessation of suffering is possible.

  1. The path to cessation of suffering exists and it is the Eightfold Though.

The Noble Eightfold path guides the practice of the ideal of an individual’s Buddhist’s life and consists of:

  1. Right understanding
  2. Right thought
  3. Right speech
  4. Right action
  5. Right livelihood
  6. Right effort
  7. Right mindfulness
